Why is Dirpy better than other, similar websites?

Here are some reasons why Dirpy is significantly better than other, similar websites:

     Real-time Transcoding
     Start downloading immediately.

     Higher Quality Mp3s
Higher quality mp3s supported, like 256kbps 44.1khz stereo for HD videos.

     Transcode Sub-Tracks
Transcode a portion of the video, like from 0:05 to 1:34.

     No Obnoxious Advertisements
Never any surveys, interstitial, or intrusive ads. Ever.

     File Parameters and ID3 Tag
Options to specify the filename, title, artist, etc.

     Incorporated Search
Finding files of interest is quick and easy.

     Save Videos
Save your favorites videos for your later viewing pleasure.

Why do my downloaded mp3s disappear or not sync with iTunes or my mp3 player?

This behavior can occur when downloads are 'opened' instead of 'saved'.

Make sure that you save, not open, your downloads (like mp3s, flvs, and mp4s from Dirpy Studio).

When downloaded files are opened, they are stored as temporary files by your operating system and can be deleted at any time without your immediate permission. Once deleted, media player software like iTunes will be unable to access them, and they will appear to have simply disappeared.

But instead, when downloaded files are saved, you can choose where you'd like to save the file on your computer and you will then be in control of its existence and access.

So if you save the downloaded file somewhere on your computer (like in a media folder you've created) instead of opening it, you can then play it in your media player of choice, import it into your favorite media library (like iTunes), load it onto your mp3 player, etc, without the file disappearing on you.

What kinds of inputs can be used to search?

Dirpy's search can handle both search queries and YouTube video urls.

Search queries can be anything interesting, like 'cat songs', 'engine block machining', or 'httpd'. These types of search queries will return video and open directory file results.

Dirpy also lets you use YouTube video urls as search arguments to go directly to Dirpy Studio. For example, searching for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo will take you directly to Dirpy Studio with this video loaded. But the YouTube video url does not have to be in the exact format illustrated above. As long as the search input is a url from a YouTube video page, it will automatically load that video in Dirpy Studio. For example, all of these YouTube video page urls work just great

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo&feature=fvw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo&feature=channel_page
etc...

Dirpy also supports shortened YouTube urls like

http://youtu.be/Qit3ALTelOo
http://youtu.be/Qit3ALTelOo?tw
etc...

And an assortment of other YouTube url formattings, like

http://www.youtube.com/watch#playnext=1&playnext_from=TL&videos=Qit3ALTelOo&v=Qit3ALTelOo

http://www.youtube.com/watch_videos?index=0&more_url=%2Fmy_subscriptions&no_autoplay=1&feature=sub&video_ids=Qit3ALTelOo&type=1

http://www.youtube.com/user/smpfilms#p/c/98321BD88B1E7615/0/Qit3ALTelOo
http://www.youtube.com/user/smpfilms#p/c/0/Qit3ALTelOo
etc...

What are the different Dirpy Studio quality settings?

Below are the bitrate, sampling rate, and number of channels for each of the Dirpy Studio transcoder quality settings. Dirpy automatically picks the highest quality

Note: Not every mp3 quality setting is available for every video. For example, only YouTube videos available in HD support the transcoding of 256 kbps mp3s.

     Low ( 64 kbps )
mp3 at 64 kbps - sampled at 22050 hz - mono or stereo ( depends on the source video )

     Low ( 68 kbps )
        mp3 at 68 kbps - sampled at 22050 hz - stereo

     High ( 112 kbps )
        mp3 at 112 kbps - sampled at 44100 hz - stereo

     High ( 128 kbps )
        mp3 at 128 kbps - sampled at 44100 hz - stereo

     HD ( 256 kbps )
        mp3 at 256 kbps - sampled at 44100 hz - stereo

What browsers and settings work best with Dirpy?

Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera are all great browsers to use with Dirpy (and the rest of the web). A screen resolution of at least 1024x768 is recommended, but the higher the better.

If you are currently using Internet Explorer, please, please upgrade to one of the aforementioned browsers. Internet Explorer is slow, insecure, and worst of all standards noncompliant. Ditch the browser that's a parasite to all software engineers in the known universe, and help us here at Dirpy spend our time developing new and exciting technology, not chasing down pointless Internet Explorer caveats and frustrations.
